NEW DELHI: India's Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC)
has recommended action against the local arm of Microsoft Corp over restrictive
trade practices, a government statement said on Friday.
The statement said this followed complaints of alleged monopolistic and
restrictive trade practices by the company and its Indian subsidiary, Microsoft
Corporation (India) Ltd.
It did not say who the complainants were.
The statement said preliminary investigation carried out by the commission
had revealed that the Indian companies did not enter into any agreement with
buyers of the software or other products.
"The restrictions imposed on the buyers of software products in terms of
End Users License Agreement were attributed to the principal company in the
US," the government statement said. "The software products of the US
company had been pleaded as Intellectual Properties."
