“Just as Droid was competitive I think with iPhone, we want to make sure that any tablet that we deliver is competitive in the marketplace,” Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha said while sharing thoughts at a Deutsche Bank Technology Conference in San Francisco on Wednesday. “We will only deliver that when that occurs. Hopefully that’s early next year.”

Observing that tablet market is an opportunity, with no cannibalization with smartphones, Jha said, “iPad is more an extension of iPhone than a migration of a Macintosh. I think that is a natural expansion for us.”

However, Jha, who has been counting on smartphones running Android to help turn around the company's flagging fortunes, said he didn't consider the latest generation of the mobile software ready for use in tablets, according to a media report.

In the recent times tablet PC has become a trend after Apple launched its iPad tablet computer which was an instant hit in the market. Recently Samsung also entered the tablet PC market with its Galaxy tab.
