Motorola country president quits

BANGALORE, INDIA: Country president, Motorola India and vice president-strategy, APC, Motorola, Amit Sharma  has put in his papers and will be joining American Towers.

American Towers is the infrastructure provider for the wireless, Internet, and broadcasting industries.

Managing Director, Global Software Group (GSG),  Motorola India, Soumitra(Sammy) Sana, will be the new country president Motorola India.

The reasons for this departure, according to Motorola spokesman, were purely professional.

Sharma had been appointed as president Motorola India on 15th March 2004, prior to which he served as Vice President, Motorola Inc.

Sharma was also holding additionally responsibility of Firdose Vandrevala, chairman, Motorola India and corporate vice president, who had left the company on July 1, 2007.

Sharma has been a member of Motorola’s Asia-Pacific Management Board since 1996 and has played a key role in development of Motorola’s Asia-Pac strategy.

Sharma had joined Motorola in 1992 and worked as a country president of Motorola India till 999, after which he had joined Motorola Inc. Prior to joining Motorola, he was Vice President - Strategic Planning & Business Development at GE Capital.

Sharma studied at IIT Kharagpur, the Wharton School and has MSE in Computer and Information Sciences from the Moore School, University of Pennsylvania.
