MosChip develops new chips

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad based MosChip Semiconductor Technology Ltd. (MosChip),

VLSI designer and systems software developer, has developed five new chips and

is all set to tape them out within a period of five weeks. "The development

part of these five chips is over now and they will go for sample development

within two weeks and by the end of September we will start the volume production

of these chips," said, MosChip managing director, Dayakar C Reddy.






The newly developed chips are directed at the peripheral segment of the IT
industry. The company has tied up with US based Flextronics Semiconductor Inc.

to jointly develop the chips. "We have a tie up with Flextronics wherein we

are using their manufacturing and logistics services and we are providing design

and development service for new products of Flextronics," he explained.






The company is jointly developing more than 16 microchips and is expecting to
start the commercial production of the chips by January 2003. "Once the

products are fully developed, they will be marketed through Netmos Technology

Inc., a subsidiary of Moschip based in the US," he added.






MosChip started its operations in the year 1999, with the objective of providing
Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) to meet diverse market needs.

The company based in Hyderabad, specializes in designing, manufacturing and

marketing very large integrated circuits (ICs), with particular focus on

consumer and data communication ICs.






The company focuses on product design and development utilizing standard cell
approach portable to multi foundries for processing. It is a fabless supplier of
