Mooring automated at Mediterranean Sea port

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: Global engineering group, Cavotec, has won an order to supply 24 MoorMaster MM200C automated mooring units, specifically designed for use in container port applications. The project is one of the largest Cavotec has registered to date for this innovative mooring technology, adds a press release.

Under the multi-million euro contract, Cavotec will manufacture, engineer, install and commission 24 MoorMaster MM200C units, which will be used on an exposed berth at a Mediterranean Sea port. This MoorMaster system will deliver productivity and utilisation increases that are not possible with traditional mooring methods.

This is the second location involving MM200Cs units at a dedicated container port, following an order from the Port of Salalah in Oman for 12 MM200Cs in 2009.

MoorMaster is a vacuum-based automated mooring technology that eliminates the need for conventional mooring lines. Remote controlled vacuum pads recessed in, or mounted on, the quayside, moor and release vessels in seconds. The technology dramatically improves safety and operational efficiency, and also enables ports to make infrastructure savings.
