Mini Manakame: The most important step for enterprises to adapt mobility is the strategy planning.

With Aditi’s expertise in mobile domain, we are helping enterprises define their mobility road map. This will include definition of the areas/applications that need to be mobile enabled, ROI calculation, prioritization of the areas and the platform/technology road map. Post that, Aditi plays the role of a technical partner in building the applications in different platforms and deployment/support of the same.

Q: How is Aditi helping enterprise leverage devices like Apple iPhone?

MM: As part of enterprise mobility road map and investment plans, it is important for enterprises to understand the limitations to each platform and do a mapping to the applications that they plan to make mobile-enabled, as part of their mobility road map and investment plan.

While i Phone is the most popular device in the mobile world, it has certain limitations around multi-tasking, application distribution challenges, device updates etc.

Aditi has a strong team experienced in architecture, design and development of iPhone apps. We have many of our iPhone apps in iTunes. With our in-depth expertise in this platform, we are able to guide organizations to define the requirements and workflow of applications that need to be iPhone enabled. If there is a particular feature that cannot be directly implemented on iPhone, we are able to provide suggestions/workarounds.

Q: What are the new technology trends that you are seeing among the Indian enterprises?

MM:As in most of the other countries, we can find the Indian market in a steep rise on mobility front. Carriers are investing frequently to better their infrastructure and support services. This puts pressure on enterprises to adapt mobility to improve productivity. Many enterprises are already laying out mobility as part of their IT strategy.

However, there is still a long way to go. Unlike countries like the US and Europe, in India, enterprises have to cater to applications which can be run on simple standard phones as a fair share of market is still held by people who do not use high-end phones. SMS and voice-based applications are a hit in the Indian markets.

The major areas for enterprise mobility applications in India include sales force management, customer relationship management and supply chain management among others. Location-based services are becoming a major part of the enterprise applications. Mobile email is seen as the first step towards enterprise mobility.

Q: Do you expect upward swing in enterprises mobility spend during 2010?

MM: Absolutely. 2008-09 marked times of cost cuttings and savings. However, between all this, enterprises have learnt that it is very important to have improved productivity while they manage costs to keep up to the tough competition.

With the infrastructure costs rising up, enterprises are continuously realizing the value of having their employees work remote. Some of the other key drivers include the low cost of mobile devices, high-speed data access and cheaper data plans. Apart from the savings in infrastructure, organizations also benefit from having improved employee satisfaction, leading to improved customer satisfaction, which, in turn, is a key driver for the business growth.
