At the launch of SQL Server 2005, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced that under the multiyear licensing program that it has signed with SAP, SAP's enterprise applications platform will come embedded with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. Said an online report.

SQL Server 2005, would support up to 93,000 concurrent users on SAP, informed Ballmer.

The software makers have officially launched a campaign "Migrate From Oracle Now" under which customers who defect from Oracle shall be offered Microsoft SQL Server-SAP implementation at a discount.

Analysts consider this proximity between MS and SAP as their assault against database giant Oracle, which is trying to consolidate the enterprise applications market through its acquisition of PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards, Siebel Systems etc.

Not keeping itself aloof from the new releases, Oracle has announced support for Visual Studio 2005, and has said that it will offer a free plugin for Visual Studio 2005 to enable tight integration between Visual Studio 2005 and Oracle Database 10g.
