BANGALORE: Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd today launched in India the SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005, the latest version of its database software and development tool.

The company today also previewed BizTalk Server 2006, its product for building business process integration solutions.

The company had launched these products globally on Sunday at Seattle. The launch of these programs was aimed at taking market share from Oracle Corp.

SQL Server 2005, delayed several times as engineers sought to make the software more reliable and secure, is a corporate database program designed to store and retrieve business data.

"The advancements in these products build on the foundation put in place over the last several years with significant investments in Windows Server 2003 and .NET, providing developers and IT professionals with a dependable application platform with underlying support for Web services and service orientation capabilities," the company said.

At a press conference here, top executives of Microsoft said the company has entered lifecycle tools market with the introduction of Visual Studio Team System (VSTS), a part of Visual Studio 2005 portfolio.

Microsoft India managing director Neelam Dhawan said, "Backed by the vast ecosystem of partners, we are at the next stage in the evolution of Microsoft's application platform offering".

She said the new products enable businesses to better connect their people, business processes and information, and give customers the ability to make better decisions faster. The new products are expected to reduce the applications development lifecycle time by about 70%, she said.

The company also announced the launch of Express editions of SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 aimed at the student and hobbyist developer community.

Speaking on the occasion, Doug Hauger, business & marketing officer, Microsoft, said, "SQL Server 2005 not only offers better functionality but also enhanced performance, scalability and availability. The new release will offer tight integration with other Windows Server System servers to deliver new levels of manageability and TCO across a customer's business environment."

Additionally, the company has also announced that it will include 12 new integration adapters in BizTalk Server 2006 Enterprise and Standard editions at no additional charge to customers. The BizTalk Server 2006 is expected to be launched in January. The move gives customers native interoperability to leading business applications such as PeopleSoft, Siebel, and Oracle business suite.

In India, more than 15 partners, including HCL, NIIT, Polaris, Ramco, Sonata and TCS, have pledged support to the new platform, the company said.

Later this month, Microsoft will start selling Xbox 360, its newest-generation video game machine, and is planning to launch next year new versions of its Windows and Office software.
