The update addresses susceptibilities in Windows from Vista to Windows 10 that would let a hacker get control of your system through a malicious app. Essentially, the update is about correcting how the Windows kernel-mode driver handles objects in memory.

For those who are using Windows 10 Anniversary Update and an up-to-date browser, this piece of news should be of no concern to you.

Those who are yet to make a transition to the latest operating system, you probably need the upgrade rather quickly. The attack is known to have been used by hacking group Strontium for a low-intensity but targeted phishing campaign. Though there are no certain details if some other organizations have also used the hole, but I am sure you wouldn’t want to find out about new attacks first-hand.

Notably, the fix also ends the rough episode of arguments and counter-arguments between two of the tech biggies. Microsoft criticized Google’s move to publish details of the flaw as irresponsible putting customers at “potential risk" since more people become aware that there's a new vulnerability they can exploit.

We can just hope that the both the companies resolve the issue at the earliest and ensure that such things don’t happen in future.
