Microsoft said it will donate all proceeds from damage awards that are

awarded by the courts to various charitable organizations. Initially, Microsoft

is donating $500,000 in cash to three southern California-based charities.

The money was awarded to Microsoft by juries who found a number of companies

guilty of pirating Microsoft software. Microsoft expects to receive more than $5

million in such damage awards in several dozen current copyright infringement

cases. The money will be divided among Team TECH Los Angeles, Computer Hope and

Second Byte Foundation. All help to provide computers and training to

underprivileged people in the Los Angeles area.
