Micromax confirms Sanjay Kapoor’s exit

Kapoor who joined Micromax as its Chairman had previously worked for Airtel as its CEO

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Sanjay Kapoor, who played a pivotal role in fuelling the growth of Micromax in the Indian smart phone market, has quit.

"Sanjay Kapoor has decided to move on. Appropriate announcements will be made in due course. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him luck for all his future endeavours," a Micromax spokesperson confirmed in an email.

Kapoor who joined Micromax as its Chairman had previously worked for Airtel as its CEO.

According to research firm IDC, 26.5 million smart phones were shipped to India in the second quarter of 2015, up 44 percent from 18.4 million units for the same period in 2014.

Samsung is the leader in the tally with 23 percent, followed by Micromax at 17 percent, Intex at 11 percent, Lava at 7 percent and Lenovo at 6 percent, respectively.
