The Renesas SH7216 boasts of up to 1MB of on-chip flash memory with 128KB SRAM, operates at 100 and 200MHz, incorporates an FPU, and achieves up to 400 DMIPS performance when executing out of the embedded flash memory.

As per the new strategy, the two majors would let customers also buy middleware components at a 50 per cent discount.

A report by Embedded.com says that the limited-time program has been tailor made to let system engineers apply the power and functionality of the 100/200MHz, 32-bit RISC MCU in home automation and industrial motor control applications. These functionalities can be made effective at less cost and less risk, the report added.

It pointed out that the 32-bit superscalar microcontroller comes with capabilities of making available Ethernet, USB and CAN communication functions. The chip is also said to hold within itself optimized peripherals. Meanwhile, the device that comes free on purchase of the SH7216, are Micrium's real-time kernels that are scalable and ROM-able. The also support most MISRA-C rules, are third-party certified and ensure that run-time is guaranteed for OS tasks, the report pointed out.
