SAN JOSE, USA: Micrel Inc has unveiled a new batch of dual low dropout voltage linear regulators. The company, a leader in the analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, has rolled out its new MIC5380 and the MIC5381 regulators which form part of a family of dual LDOs that promise to offer low dropout voltage of 155mV@150mAmp.

This, significantly, is more than 60db Power Supply Ripple Rejection (PSRR) and low quiescent current 32microA, in the smallest possible form factor, Micrel said in a statement.

Making themselves ideal for advanced and smallest portable applications such as cellular phones, RF power, camera modules, imaging sensors for digital still and video cameras, PDAs, portable media players and PC cameras, the new batch of dual low dropout voltage linear regulators comes as a minuscule 1.0 mm x 1.0 mm 6 pin leadless thin MLF package.

The company added that it is making the MIC5380 and the MIC5381 available in volume quantities and would attach price tags starting from $0.25 for 1K quantities. The MIC5380 and the MIC5381 integrate two high performance LDOs that offer transient response while requiring only small and inexpensive 1microF ceramic capacitors. Besides, the MIC5381 offers an auto discharge function.

Micrel further said that the MIC5380 and MIC5381 offer full protection circuitry including current limit and thermal shutdown protection, and an operating junction temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.

According to Andy Khayat, Micrel's director of marketing for portable power products at Micrel, “the tiny new LDO family sets a new benchmark on smallest possible package form factor without compromising on specifications or electrical performance. Further, the MIC5380 and the MIC5381 address the need for continuing portable size reduction while offering significant advantages over solutions currently on the market.”

He added that the new dual LDOs offer excellent overall performance and ultra-small foot print for all space-constrained portable electronics.
