BANGALORE: In his visit to Bangalore, Dell Computers chairman and CEO,
Michael Dell, reinstated that the company is committed to increase its presence
in India in terms of market share, scaling its international services operation
and its off shore development facility in Bangalore.
The head of the No 1 personal computer maker in the world, Dell said,
"India is a significant market for Dell. It can become a major contributor
for Dell’s sales to the company’s Asia Pacific operations. Dell India is
capable of delivering world class services to both Dell and to the world
market."
Dell has an International Service facility and an off shore development
center in Bangalore. While the International services takes care of the support
services, the off shore development center caters to the in-house software needs
of the company and outside market.
"Apart from being the number one computer maker, Dell Computers is also
number one in providing customised products along with support for the
customers. There are about 50,000 service personnel representing Dell from
partner firms. A additional 7,000 personnel are directly deployed from Dell,
across the world, of which 800 are in Bangalore. It certainly quantifies the
cost advantage to have a customer support and off shore development center here
but I am not going to share it with you," said Dell.
He also claimed that out of the $ 31 billion Dell’s revenue, 22 per cent
was contributed from software and services. With the PC sales expected to
increase from anywhere between two to 10 per cent this year, he assured that
Dell will certainly exceed the market performance.
With the enterprise server segment clearly the focus for the company, Dell is
also set to increase its position and market share in the enterprise server
segment across the world and in India, while consolidating its leadership
position in the personal computer segment.
