The portal is an interactive web-based tool aimed at fostering stronger partnerships between Metro and its suppliers, which is expected to go live in August.

Germany based Metro Cash & Carry is a member of the Metro AG group, operating more than 500 distribution centers in 28 countries. India is the first country where Metro is launching an SRM portal.

Speaking at the launch here, Metro Cash & Carry India IT head A. Lakshminarayanan said, "This portal has been developed for Metro's operations in Asia using the knowledge gained by Metro India's interactions with its large supplier base."

The company has around 600 suppliers in India with two distribution houses in Bangalore.

"The suppliers would be able to reconcile their orders and calculate their invoices electronically as processing of payment through the portal. It would also help them improve their inventory levels and plan their production and dispatch schedule better," Lakshminarayanan said.

Metro would replicate the portal in other Asian countries like China, Vietnam and Indonesia based on the feedback on the Indian portal.
