BANGALORE: The growing dependence of American companies on India for the complete development of their products could be further strengthened by the fact that California based MetricStream, a compliance management software company, would be soon launching its latest, '100 percent developed in Bangalore' product-QualityStream 3.5.

According to the company, a 45-member strong MetricStream development team at its Bangalore facility worked on an enhanced version of the product, which would be released in September this year.

Stressing on the dependence on India, the company CEO, Shellye Archambeau said, "India is critical to our operations. Everything from engineering, development, testing, support to marketing and strategic operations is handled in Bangalore."

MetricStream also plans to double its headcount in India by next year. Declining to reveal the amount of investment that would go into the expansion, Archambeau said that the company would utilize its $100 million investment outlay that was allotted three and a half years ago.

Besides focusing on India as a development center, the company also plans to develop a market base in India. "Though our clients are US based, we have been receiving enquiries from Indian companies in the pharmaceutical, automotive and biotech sectors. We hope that 15 percent to 20 percent of our business would come from the Asian market next year," said Archambeau.

MetricStream is raking in revenues thanks to the bewildering number of regulatory and quality specifications mandated by companies, which have hundreds of suppliers spread across numerous locations. "Companies want to make sure they don't compromise on quality and regulatory requirements. They also want to improve on operational efficiency which is where we come in," she added.

The company provides integrated compliance software platform that supports both operational regulatory compliance such as FDA, OSHA and corporate governance initiatives like Sarbanes-Oxley Act for its clients.

An AMR study indicates that Fortune 1000 companies have earmarked more than $2.5 billion this year in Sabanes-Oxley Act investigation and compliance related work and an optimistic Archambeau expects the company to double its revenues over the next couple of years.

Some of MetricStream's clients include Hitachi, Pfizer, Solectron, Subway, Adidas and Dolby.
