Please tell me about integration of MPLS with a VSAT network.
Subodh Kulkarni, Head-IT, Dodsal Engineering and Construction:

I am a PCQ subscriber for many years. I read Prasanto K Roy's article, 'It Isn't Just the Tech,' in the August 09 issue. At State Bank of India, our Internet banking facility lets you take out statements of accounts, in various formats, without restriction on the period—as long as the data is available within ourCBS platform. (When we have the data, why limit it to 12 months or 18 months? )While our CBS was started in August 2003on a small footing, the major push (upon stabilization and customization) was given from 2005 onwards. We migrated nearly 3,000 branches in just three months, starting end-2007, many of them in rural and semi-urban places. This illustrates the enormity of the work involved. We have, since, fully migrated to CBS, all branches and non-branch sites (of SBI plus all associate banks) long ago. Before CBS, we were using BankMaster, and before that, Electronic Branch Accounting System Type-II,as recommended by the Rangarajan Committee. We have also successfully migrated the BankMaster data to CBS. Just before sending this mail, I again verified that I can get statements of all my accounts from 2006 onwards without any glitch. In the rare situation where the historical data was eithernot available or is corrupted (during the many conversions it went through before ending up inCBS), the customer needs to go to his home branch to get the old data. Apart from statements, our INB offers many facilities and customizable options to each INB customer, personal or corporate. As I also bank with other banks, to know what they offer, I can confidently say that our INB is one of the best products in the Indian banking industry,as of now. In fact in August 2007, both our INB and our ATM network got ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification, valid through 2010.I am sure you would be happy reading about whatthe country's largest commercial bank has already done.

The Editor’s column last month 'Is the PC Disappearing' is interesting reading. You are very right that PCs and laptops will soon be replaced by netbooks/nettops. How soon? Well I guess it will surprise everyone by the speed with which it happens. The challenges you mentioned on employees working out of Cloud, I see Windows 7 features of 'DirectAccess' and 'BranchCache' already have answers to your questions. Because of the reasons you have mentioned in your editorial, next three years are transformational and it is likely to bring more changes in traditional IT services than has happened in last 10 years

Re: Cover Story on Online Banking Threats appearing in July 2005 issue of PCQuest
As a result of the Article, we have received quite a few inquiries from anxious customers to verify if the online banking transactions through ICICI Bank were secure.
