Maran opens India Pavilion at WSIS

TUNIS: Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communications & Information Technology, inaugurated the India Pavilion at the second phase of World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) here with a focus on “ICT 4 Development and Solidarity”.

The Pavilion showcases the efforts of the Indian companies such as C-DAC, and TCIL from Government sector and Infosys, TCS, HCL, Midas, Tejas, ITC and NIIT from private sector are participating.

Some of these companies have displayed their projects in real-time including tele-medicine, e-governance applications, and fibre-to-home technology, etc.

In order to address health sector and bringing its benefits at the doorsteps of the citizens, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is showcasing tele-medicine application in real time by demonstrating medical consultation between Regional Cancer Centre at Thiruvananthapuram and one remote village.

Fibre-to-Home Technology is the project being demonstrated by Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL). This exhibits broadband services and connecting Broadband to homes, schools and small businesses. ITC is exhibiting e-choupal project, which covers over 15000 villages in Indian states providing millions of farmers with critical information about farming.

While Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is exhibiting various Business Service Solutions, Infosys is exhibiting banking solutions and other products. NIIT is displaying 'Hole-in-the-Wall' demonstrating how education is addressing all sections of the society as also to create ability among children. HCL, with a view to give impetus for bridging digital divide, is demonstrating their low-cost PC at the Exhibition. Midas has come with cost-effective broadband solutions and neurosynaptics kits, which diagnoses blood pressure, ECG, temperature, etc., of a person remotely.
