MapWorld to roll out GPS

HYDERABAD: MapWorld Technologies, a Hyderabad-based geomatics services

provider is planning to roll out GPS based vehicle-tracking system, which would

be used for fleet management in various segments including public transport

companies, police and health care services.

"We are already engaged in talks with some foreign firms regarding the

product and initially we would be looking at the European market for the

product," said MapWorld managing director, K Satheesh Kumar. The company is

expecting to roll out the product within one year.

"We are in talks with certain companies to provide GPS services on

hand-held devices," he said. MapWorld is also eyeing other segments to

offer services such as remote monitoring over LAN and Internet. On the product

side, the company is developing GIS software called NETMap, which would be used

to put databases on the net.

"The process of integrating geographical databases with WAP-enabled

applications has commenced, so the product could be used for Internet

mapping," he said. The product, which would be released on a CD format by

the end of this year, is likely to cost around Rs 4 lakh.

The company is looking forward to getting a venture capital funding of Rs 4

crore and it is already into final stages of talks with some Indian venture

capitalists. The company is having tie-ups with international companies such as

Autodesk Inc, Softpro Services from US, Racurs from Russia and Japan based

Topcon.
