HARROGATE, UK – Software business Magnolia Box is declaring war on the art world today by helping change the way we source, select and purchase art.

The days of visiting your local gallery could soon be over as the Internet transforms the variety, quantity and quality of artworks available for purchase.

"Today’s fine art consumer has an unprecedented variety of choice with advances in technology enabling millions of digitised paintings and photographs to be transformed via print on demand into high quality works of art," claims James Old, Magnolia Box’s Managing Director. Print on demand, also known as art on demand, is the process of producing fine art prints or canvases according to specific, individual preferences.

"Art on demand empowers the consumer to determine everything about their order from its size and colour down to the material it is printed upon."

We are rapidly moving towards a world where the individual determines on demand when they wish to use traditional media such as film, television andradio. Magnolia Box is seeking to apply these newly emerging principles to the art industry.

"The benefits of an on demand model extend not only the consumer but also to conventional art retailers,” believes James, “Artists, Galleries and Museums no longer need to pre-purchase expensive stocks that they have no guarantee of selling."

"The beauty of our solution is that everything is completely virtual until a product is actually purchased. It is only when a customer places and pays for an order that our supply-chain is galvanised into action and the retailer is charged."

It is not just modern online galleries that are benefiting from Magnolia Box’s approach. Traditional institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery have recently used Magnolia Box to support their major Pop Art Portraits exhibition.

"The Pop Art Portraits exhibition is a perfect fit with our art on demand solution,” declares James, “Artists such Warhol, Lichtenstein and Blake helped challenge the conventions of the art world just as we are aim to challenge the conventions of traditional art retail."
