Lucent Technologies announced that it will award
grants worth US $ 500,000 to aid more than 4000 young people across India.
This is being made possible by Lucent's arm, the Lucent Technologies
Foundation, the funding will support sponsorships and vocational training.
The grant is to award in India for its youth development programme. It
will fund student sponsorships, vocational training programmes and other
initiatives, such as education of
homeless youths, over a period of three years beginning in June 2000. In
India, the Foundation has joined with
the Share and Care Foundation, a US-registered, volunteer-operated
charity. In year 2000, the Foundation, through the Share and Care
Foundation, will fund eight projects in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Cochin, Hyderabad, New Delhi and
Pune.
