India does have the right to celebrate growth in Internet usage in the country but our Internet speeds are dismal. We are lagging way behind compared to the rest of the world. Akamai, a US based content delivery and cloud services provider, reports that India, at 3.5 Mbps, has the lowest average Internet speed in the Asia Pacific region.

London downtown is the place to be if you wish for fastest possible mobile Internet speeds. The ‘State of the Internet’ report released by Akamai, says that the average UK mobile Internet user enjoyed speeds of 27.9 Mbps in the first quarter of 2016, well above the average for the rest of Europe.

What comes as a shocker is the U.S. mobile speeds that clocked in at a meager 5.1 Mbps, on par with users in countries like Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Globally, Europe in general clocked the highest mobile Internet speeds, with countries like Belgium, Norway, and Spain averaging speeds of 16-20 Mbps. Africa clocked some of the lowest speeds, with no countries averaging anything above 5 Mbps, including Algeria, the lowest scorer at just 2.2 Mbps.
