CALICUT, INDIA: Being an MP (Member of Parliament) in India under the watchful eyes of the electronic media is no mean task. All his/her activities are closely monitored and scrutinized by the press on a daily basis.

What more! Even Anna Hazare and the like are up in arms to force the Centre to introduce a 'Right To Recall' bill, targeted at inefficient and underperforming MPs.

Concisely, an Indian MP's life has become hell-like. There is no escape for them from people's problems, especially when a volley of allegations of corruption is being levelled against their colleagues.

Here is some good news for them. A Kerala-based entrepreneur has come up with an e-solution that makes interaction between an MP and the people from his/her constituency easier and smoother. If an MP is serious about people and development of the respective constituency, this platform can be used to interact with them.

Sainul Abideen N, MD and CEO of Calicut-based software company Cybrosys Technologies, has developed a software, which can be installed in the website of an MP, to enable communication with his people more easy.

“Nowadays, it has become almost impossible for an MP not to pay heed to his people's grievances. They need a platform to interact with people and solve their problems on a war footing,” said Abideen.

“We realised that if people are provided with an online platform to file their complaints and petitions, it would help the MP perform better. This has led us to develop a software called e-MP, on which individuals can file their complaints and petitions online.”

People no more need to stand up in queue for long time to meet their representatives in order to lodge complaints. “This software has a separate module for the common public to help them file their petition online. The MP concerned can later have a look into it and redress it at the earliest,” he said.

There are reports that last year, almost 30 per cent of the MP funds that amount to the tune of crores of rupees, meant for development activities got lapsed, owing to a lack of proper communications between MPs and general public.

“An MP represents a large number of people in a constituency and so, can't attend to the woes of every individual,” Abideen continued. “This has led people to think that their MP is inaccessible and has created a huge divide between the common man and his representative. Hopefully, this divide can be bridged with the e-MP suite to a large extent.”

On the website, all the petitions filed go to a central database, and the MP and his secretary can access them. “In this software, each petition is considered a ticket, as would be in a professional firm. If it is not resolved, it keeps reminding him of the ticket and the MP can't just get away without noticing that.”

A separate module meant for the MP can track how many tickets have been resolved and how many are left. “An MP can pre-define a project in this software, so that if a road project has just been launched in his constituency, he can check the progress on the website.”

Abideen has no plans to commercialize the software. “In a country like India, it is almost impossible for an MP to interact with people on a daily basis. That situation needs to be changed. I hope that information technology can bring in a drastic change to this scenario.”

The CEO is also dreaming of a day when all the MPs in India use the platform to communicate better with their constituency. “This will, certainly, accelerate growth. Even those who do not have Internet access, can go to a nearby Akshaya e-centre or Internet cafe to e-file their petitions.”

“We are running a pilot with e-MP software in Kerala. If the project becomes a huge success, we would introduce it as a free product all over India. We don't have commercial plans with the e-MP suite. I would be happy if someone comes up with a better software or an upgraded version of e-MP, which will eventually lead to a better tomorrow,” he concluded.
