Lason implements campus model for recruitment

CHENNAI: Lason India, an early entrant in the BPO sector has successfully implemented the Campus Model in Nehru Memorial Arts and Science College (NMC) at Puthanampatti, Trichy, for the first time in the country.

Nehru Memorial College, established in 1967, is an autonomous institution affiliated to the Bharathidasan University, offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses with a special focus on IT.

Located in a small village Puthanampatti, 30 kms away from Tiruchirapalli, the college has over 3000 students on its roll with nearly 60 per cent residential students.

The BPO course curriculum had been designed with the objective of making the students employable as soon as they complete their college. The curriculum fits into three semesters, which includes both theory and practical exposure, expected to give hands-on experience and to make students "Industry-Ready" on the completion of the course.

This is offered as an elective subject to graduate and postgraduate students.

Lason India offered intense training to the lecturers at Nehru Memorial Arts and Science College with hands on experience in-order to train the students more effectively at their college.

Speaking about the project to CyberMedia News, Thomas Denomme, director, Lason India said: "Our organization has constantly been in the forefront to explore new avenues in implementing high standards of BPO services in India. Realizing the boom of BPO industry in the near future, we then comprehended that the easy way to meet the growing

demands of the industry would be to train the young talent with a clear-cut course module that would cater a combination of theoretical and practical knowledge. We are highly enthused by the kind of reception we have received for this course module from various

educational institutions across Tamil Nadu."

Jaykumar, vice president - Operations, Lason India said, "The course model has been conceptualized and rolled out by Lason India very recently. Three of the faculties from NMC took up the course on BPO-Healthcare at Lason India. This was followed by, designing of the curriculum for the BPO-Healthcare. Out of 150 students who opted to

take the course, eighty of them were selected for the pilot batch."

The faculties were given intensive training on the high-level practical aspects of the BPO industry that enabled them to coach the students more proficiently. The entire course module had been custom-built by incorporating most up-to-date developments in the BPO industry.

Apart from providing support in terms of training the students, Lason India also set-up the infrastructure facilities like computers, e-mail connectivity and also financial assistance to fund their own education.

The trained students would now do the data processing and send the data with the required Quality to LASON within the turn around time.

On the new and innovative initiative, college principal, Dr S Ramalingam said, "The entire curriculum has been designed keeping in mind, the latest advancements and requirements of the BPO Industry. Since the course also caters the practical knowledge, it enhances the confidence level of the students by laying a very strong foundation."
