LAS VEGAS, USA: The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2009 in Las Vegas is still a day away, but 'CES Unveiled' kick-started the proceedings prior to the show. CES Unveiled is basically an on-site, pre-CES press preview and product display. The well-attended (and invite only) event saw over 50 exhibitors jostling for space, showcasing some of their best technologies before the event actually starts on the 8th.

Lenovo showcased their innovative dual-display, 17-inch laptop. A slide-out screen operates as an independent secondary display. Samsung was there with some new commercial display applications, including multi-monitor setups with wafer-thin bezels and ultra high brightness outdoor LCDs.

The Pacemaker was an unlikely name for a 60GB handheld music player and DJ mixing console; just cue up two mp3 tracks, match the beats and mix them on the move.

Israeli-based PowerMat drew a lot of crowd. This is wireless battery charging technology for gadgets that has been promised for a long time, but just never saw the light of day. Just place your gadgets (with a special receiver attached) on the PowerMat, and the mat will automatically recognize and charge it.

Flexicord cables offered a new way to manage all sorts of cables; HDMI, ethernet, USB, RCA, speaker cable et al, with cables that retain their shape in whatever position you shape them. Does away with messy cables for all your electronics.

Eton was there with solar and hand-crank radios. Novint Technologies (they specialize in haptic feedback) showcased an innovative gaming peripheral for first person shooter (FPS) games with powerful force feedback; the Falcon. This device with a gun-shaped handle really puts you in the game, offering realistic, gun-like recoil while shooting and feedback when you've been hit.

Blaupunkt demoed their Internet Car Radio with technology from miroamer.com. The car stereos connect via Bluetooth to an internet device and offer free unlimited music via the internet.

Quite an exciting line up already, and the official CES event hasn't even started yet. Watch out for more on CES in the next few days.
