BANGALORE: Kyocera Wireless India Private Ltd. (KWI), a fully owned subsidiary of Kyocera Wireless Corp., a manufacturer of CDMA wireless phones, has announced the establishment of a Hardware Engineering Design Services Center in Bangalore, India. According to a company press release, the design center augments Kyocera's existing software engineering and production capabilities in India, which is one of the fastest-growing wireless markets in the world.

"The creation of a Hardware Design Center at KWI moves us closer toward self-sufficiency in the Indian CDMA market, which is expected to grow to from 10 million subscribers in 2003 to more than 40 million by 2007." said Tsuyoshi Mano, president of Kyocera Wireless Corp. "By enhancing its existing software capabilities with a hardware design center, KWI will be able to react quickly to the Indian Carriers' requirements."

"KWI, by complementing its current software plan with hardware capabilities, will become a one-stop solution provider to Indian CDMA carriers in the near term, and other CDMA markets in the future" said Samartha Nagabhushanam, managing director of Kyocera Wireless India.

Combining the current software expertise with this newly established hardware design center will allow KWI to complement Kyocera's existing wireless business hubs in North America and Japan. Kyocera Wireless already has established successful relationships in India with private carrier Tata Teleservices, as well as government carriers Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). The Hardware Engineering Design Center is currently staffed with 10 people and is planned to grow substantially in coming months.
