NEW YORK, USA: Inventor Judah Klausner's company said on Wednesday that it sued communications equipment makers Cisco Systems Inc and Avaya Inc, alleging patent infringement.
Klausner Technologies said Cisco and Avaya violated its patents related to "visual voicemail" technology which helps consumers selectively listen to voice messages by showing lists of callers on mobile phone screens.
Total damages were estimated at $118 million, Klausner said.
Klausner grabbed the attention of the mobile phone industry in late 2007 when his company sued Apple Inc and other companies for $360 million, alleging violations of patents on visual voicemail technology.
He has since settled disputes with companies including Apple, Google Inc and Verizon Communications Inc.
Cisco declined to comment, and an Avaya official was not immediately available to comment.
The case, F100-PW-229, was filed in federal court in the eastern district of Texas.
