Bangalore: Kiran Karnik, former CEO of Discovery Channel(India), has been
short listed by the selection committee as the successor to Dewang Mehta as the
president of Nasscom. "The selection committee has given its
recommendations and the executive committee, which will meet in Bangalore
tomorrow to give approval to his appointment, " said Nasscom chairman,
Phiroz Vandrevala to CIOL Bureau.
After 4 months of intensive search and scrutinizing nearly 100 candidates,
Nasscom has short listed on Kiran Karnik, even toying with the idea of
appointing a IAS officer for the post. He will be assisted in his
responsibilities by three vice presidents for member services, media and events.
"The Nasscom is undergoing a restructuring process in its organizational
level and the appointment of a president and three vice presidents is one of
them. Handing over exclusive responsibilities to each of the executives will
help focus the association's objective. While the President will over look all
these responsibilities apart from handling strategic partnerships with other
countries," said Vandrevala.
The appointing of vice presidents will be after the new president takes
charge and he will also be involved in selecting them. All the new executive
members will be appointed as full time employees of Nasscom. Information reveals
that the selection of the president was handled by a international HR agency.
