NEW DELHI: Reliance Communication, which had lost the bid to Vtel Holdings last year, has been invited by the Communications Commission of Kenya to apply for the Kenyan mobile license.

The Commission has cancelled the operator license awarded to Vtel Holdings after it failed to fulfill the commitments. It invited Reliance to apply within a week and if the operator fails to apply, a fresh tender for operating license would be issued.

Last year, Vtel had bagged the operating license by quoting a bid amount of $169.7 million, against Reliance’s $111 million. However, the operator will have to raise the bidding amount to meet the Vtel’s amount.
