According to the company, Joyce will replace as CEO James Kim, Amkor's founder. Kim, who is also chairman of the company's board of director, will become executive chairman of the board after October 1. Meanwhile, Joyce, who will continue to be the president of the company, will join Amkor's board of directors on that date.

James Kim, who spoke to the media on the new appointment, said he believes this is the right time to make this transition “as we continue the succession planning begun more than a year ago when Ken became president and COO”.

Joyce, 62, who had stepped into Amkor Technology in 1997, had spent eight years as executive vice president and chief financial officer. He had also served in the role of chief administrative officer.

Earlier, Joyce had been occupying executive positions at Selas Fluid Processing Corp. and Selas Corp. of America.
