Speaking at a public meeting late Sunday at his Tiruvarur constituency, Karunanidhi said: "She (Kanimozhi) is in jail owing to some central government's intelligence agency or due to carelessness of some officials or due to some other reason. As the matter is in court, I do not want to go deeper into it."

Kanimozhi, an MP, is currently in Tihar Jail in New Delhi. She is a stakeholder in the Karunanidhi family-owned Kalaignar TV, which is accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of receiving Rs.200 crore kickbacks in the 2G spectrum scandal.

Karunanidhi said it was his fault to persuade Kanimozhi to become a shareholder in the Kalaignar TV though she was reluctant.
