BANGALORE, INDIA: The 412 Aadhaar enrolment centres run by four agencies in Bangalore have not been able to meet the demands of Aadhaar cards. The Department of e-Governacne in Karnataka is in plans to establish seven dedicated centres for online appointments.

"The system of having one kiosk to cater to online appointments in a general centre is creating chaos in the centres. We have received many complaints. That is why we decided to separate the two and set up online appointment-based centres," a Hindu report quoted a senior government official as saying.

The e-Governance Department is planning to expand the project and is in the process of identifying potential contractors. An Expression of Interest (EOI) has already been floated for the purpose and it will be out over the next fortnight.

"We had hoped that the 412 centres will slowly be scaled up to at least 600, but this has not happened. We are looking into this. Some of our plans were held up due to the Election Code of Conduct, but this is being set right now," the official said.

The State Government of Karnataka is looking at considering at least five more contractors through the fresh tender. This will take the number of enrolment centres to 800.
