Juniper Networks intros new core router

BANGALORE, INDIA: Networking company Juniper Networks introduced its next-generation T Series router platform, Juniper Networks T4000 core router, powered by the Junos operating system.

The company claims that the T4000 has up to 240 Gbps/slot capacity and is the industry's fastest and densest IP/MPLS router and will support 10/40/100GE speed.

The T4000 also enables existing T640 and T1600 core routers to be upgraded to T4000 without service disruption or changing customer-facing interfaces.

Stefan Dyckerhoff, executive vice president and general manager, Infrastructure Products Group, Juniper Networks, said: "With the T4000, Juniper is now the first to provide clear investment protection for three generations of core routers since the introduction of the T640 more than eight years ago."

“Juniper is the clear leader in innovative, next-generation networking technologies, including being the first to announce and deliver 100G,” said Sridhar Sarathy, vice president — India Operations, Juniper Networks India. “With the T4000, Juniper is now the first to provide clear investment protection for three generations of core routers since the introduction of the T640 more than eight years ago.”

The company says that at 2.7 watts of power per Gigabit of processed traffic, the T4000 is more than three times as efficient as the T1600, which is the most power-efficient core router of its generation.

The T4000 will be showcased in a live demonstration at the Supercomputing conference in New Orleans, during November 15-19.

The T4000 will be available in 2H 2011.
