BANGALORE: India Semiconductor Association (ISA) and the TiE Bangalore
Chapter today announced their association with STPI to promote Orchid Techscape
— a new facility conceptualized by STPI (Software Technology Parks of India)
and supported by the Karnataka government.
Orchid Techscape is an incubation centre aimed at promoting start-ups in
hi-tech domains. ISA and TiE (The Indus Entreprenuers) in association with STPI
would focus on encouraging semiconductor design start-ups through Orchid
Techscape.
“This unique partnership with STPI and TiE, takes ISA a step closer to its
vision of promoting India as a global semiconductor hub through technology
leadership. Globally, semiconductor start-ups have played an important role in
creation of new technology and ISA has been focused on creating an enabling
environment for such technology focused start-ups to groom in India. With the
rapid growth in design capability in the semiconductor sector, India is ready to
ride the technology entrepreneurship wave. ISA has already been promoting the
cause of semiconductor and electronics manufacturing in the country and
acceleration in the design start-ups activity would go a long way in creating
successful product and technology companies out of India” said Rajendra Khare,
Chairman, India Semiconductor Association.
Among the various initiatives that ISA has undertaken to support the cause of
semiconductor start-ups, the first one entails working with STPI to put up a
powerful compute farm at the new incubation center. This would enable virtual
sharing of expensive hardware platforms amongst the semiconductor start-ups.
The second important initiative ISA has undertaken is to work with leading
EDA Companies to not only offer their tools but also design methodology and
productization support throughout the product development life cycle to the
participating companies through innovative business engagement models. It can be
noted that the prohibitive costs of EDA tools and the associated expert level
support constitute the key entry barriers for semiconductor start-ups. Design
house majors like Cadence and Synopsys have come forward to extend their
wholehearted support to Orchid Techscape.
Commenting on these initiatives, B V Naidu, director, STPI, said, “ISA has
been involved in this project with STPI since the conceptualization of this
incubation centre. Encouraging high value technology start—ups, especially in
the semiconductor sector is one of the key objectives for Orchid Techscape and
we greatly value the knowledge and the strong entrepreneurial focus that ISA and
TiE have been able to provide. I am confident that Orchid Techscape would play a
major role in moving the semiconductor industry to the next gear and help India
become the future technology powerhouse.”
“Fusion of entrepreneurship and technology would play a defining role in
taking India towards future economic growth. TiE is delighted in being
associated with STPI and ISA in grooming the young technology entrepreneurs in
the country who are coming with novel business ideas. Through its recently
launched Entrepreneur Acceleration Program, TiE is committed to playing the role
of a catalyst in promoting high technology start-ups” said Dr. Sridhar Mitta,
President of the TiE Bangalore Chapter.
