How prepared is the IT infrastructure developed by the National Informatics Center (NIC) in the wake of natural calamities?

"We are very well equipped, " responded Neeta Verma, Deputy DG, NIC. Verma spoke to CIOL on the sidelines of a Gartner event here in Mumbai today.

It must be noted that NIC handles approximately 15 Petabytes of digital data from across government organizations in the country.

Verma said, "When we built our data centers 5 years back, we ensured that the buildings were earthquake resistant."

NIC has installed the mission critical applications on two separate recovery nodes, and has kept two power grids for power backup.

"We have the infrastructure and backup in place and we should be up and running on minutes," she concluded.
