Cheetah Mobile, the leading mobile utility provider has published its survey on top apps across different categories that generate maximum data on Android phones. The report identifies popular applications like Flipkart, PicsArt, Facebook and UC Browser for creating maximum junk files in their respective segments.
The Survey was based on Clean Master, company’s flagship application which had an install base of roughly 20 million devices in India in 2015. The app was used 81,000,000 times to clean a total of 128PB junk files.
According to the survey, Android 4.4 accounts for 46% of Clean Master download. Android 5.0 and 5.1 come second and third while Android 6.0 only makes up 2%.
Videos, photography and tools were found to have generated maximum data. The table below depicts applications across 7 top categories that created the most junk files.
These are the top app categories based on the number of times they were cleaned with Clean Master.
The top apps generating the most data files in every category are as follow.
In Videos Category, TubeMate and MX Player generated maximum data. Both these apps are primarily used to download videos.
In Photography category, excluding the pre-installed apps, PicsArt and BeautyPlus accounted for most data files.
In Tools category, among the top 10, there is three file transferring tools, two security apps, and two app lockers. Most of the junk created by transferring tools are installation packages.
In Social apps category, Facebook generated maximum junk in the form of system caches, which also applies to Instagram and WhatsApp.
For Browsers, UC Browser family generated the most data on user devices.
In Games category, Clash of Clans was top ranked, followed by Pirate Kings. Most data created by the games exist in system storage.
In e-commerce category, Flipkart and Paytm generated maximum data among all shopping apps.
