NEW DELHI: Spyware, spams, viruses and worms have been at a high in the year that just passed by, causing a lot of harm to enterprises. Gearing up to face these challenges that will continue growing, analysts predict that 2005 will be the year of the intrusion prevention system.

More and more vendors will focus on devices and software that will prevent distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Enterprises need prevention systems that can cope with threats from internal as well as external users and hence there is an inevitable need for reliable intrusion prevention systems. Hence, prevention tools are being looked upon as a real 'breadwinner.'

According to the research firm In-Stat/MDR, IPS market is poised to reach $1.4 billion by 2008, up from $541 million in 2003. Said an online report. A study from Gartner also points out that most security tools vendors will incorporate IPS in their appliances as a standard feature by 2006. Vendors are working towards delivering "unified threat management" solutions that will incorporate IPS, firewall, antivirus etc. for fully secured networks.
