NEW DELHI: Intex Technologies has launched, ThumbDrive, targeted at the mobile users. Despite its miniature size and light-weight, once Intex ThumbDrive is plugged in, it would act like any other mass storage device, informed company sources.

The device is the size of a thumb and slots into a computer's Universal Serial Bus port with ease and is recognized instantly as a removable drive where data can be read, edited or added. Unlike a CD or DVD, it is protected from physical corruption when scraped or dropped, because the memory is encased in a plastic cover.

ThumbDrive is made to withstand vibration as also extremes of humidity, magnetic fields and temperatures. Data can be stored in the ThumbDrive for approximately ten years. It operates on Windows 98, Windows 98 SE (second edition), Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

ThumbDrive is informed to transfer files greater than 1.44MB in size between PCs that are not on a network, be used instead of an external floppy or Zip drive on a notebook and also be used in challenging environmental conditions. Data transfer speed of these drives ranges from 500kbps - Write (host to flash USB driver), to 900kbps- Read (flash USB driver to host).

The model is currently available in range of 32MB and 64MB and incorporates write protection feature.
