The Director General of NIESBUD heads the activities, initiatives and programs of NIESBUD. Apart from the new programs, NISBUD encourages extensive research and new programs are being initiated in behavioral science as well. In addition, educational and training based programs are also undertaken under this department. As Director, NIESBUD, Rita Sengupta is responsible for the training and research programs including the management of international delegations.
NIESBUD is an autonomous body under the ministry of MSME. This was conceived in 1983 and is functioning since 1985. Primarily with the vision of creating and developing the entrepreneurial culture in India. This works as an Apex body with syllabi for Entrepreneurship Development program, Training Kits and more.
There are additional activities that link NIESBUD initiatives with education. NIESBUD has worked with NCERT, CBSE where there are efforts deliberated in Educational Institutions to popularize the concept of Entrepreneurship in formative years. The focus is also to create skilled youth, which is employable, and be self-employed. NIESBUD also does programs through the Ministry of Labor with the focus on Rural Development. Educational programs are conducted on a continuous basis and NIESBUD looks for partnerships with management institutions. NIESBUD does eight international programs a year.
The focus for 2011 / 12 includes the development of a skill mission, a focus to develop the SME Sector, which can enhance the SMBs so that they can diversify and compete. Another focus is to develop user-friendly literature for youth. Today innovation is at its peak with increased opportunities for entrepreneurship.
NIESBUD is looking at diversification and new models and functions through the governing council headed by the Ministry. One of the biggest achievements of NIESBUD is the journey it made is from being a grant institute to self-reliant today. This requires a great vision and great team to deploy.
