“These are the world’s smallest processor and for the first time that a mainstream processor had been built to support high definition graphics. A person will not have to buy an additional graphics cards for playing mainstream games available today. Only if some one is a gaming geek then he will have to go for additional graphics card,” said R Ravichandran, director-sales, Intel South Asia at the launch of the 32 nm range of processors.

Ravichandran compared these processors with the three-year old processors available in the market and mentioned that users will get double performance seed in comparison to the highest processing available in the market three years back.

These new range of processor will not work on the motherboards that are available for 45 nm or above size.

“There will be new mother boards that are coming in the market for 32nm range of processor. These processors will not be supported by mother boards that were used for processors of other range,” added Ravichandran.

These mother boards will have flexibility for gaming geek to upgrade graphics support by adding additional gaming as per their requirement.

Intel has also introduced Turbo booster in these processors which automatically enhance the performance of these newly launched processors.

The price range for six desktop processors launched in this new segment starts at $113, for Core i3-530, which has base clock speed of 2.93 Ghz and graphics frequency of 733 Mhz.  For Core i5-670, the price is $284, which has the base clock speed of 3.46 Ghz, with turbo boost reaches 3.73 Ghz, and graphics frequency is equivalent to that of Core i3-530.

In this segment all the processors, except Corei5-661, have graphics frequency of 733 Mhz. Corei5-661 has graphics frequency of 900 Mhz and is priced at $196.

The range of 11 mobile processors, meant for mobility segment, starts from $225 with Corei5-520 and goes up to two processors Corei7-620 and i7-640 priced at $332.

Ravichandran hinted that there will be drop in prices of these processors as the adoption of these products increase in the market.

“At the launch, we have seen the price points are high but as the adoption of product increases, the prices are bound to fall. From 2000 to 2010 we have seen approximately reduction in price of processors at CAGR of 38 per cent,” said Ravi.

The shipment of Corei7 range of processors has started for retail market and shipment of Corei3 and i5 range of processors is expected to start from this January 17.

According to Intel, more than 400 laptop and desktop PC designs have been developed using these new processors.

Intel simultaneously launched Intel 5 series chipsets and Intel Centrino Wifi and Wimax adapters that include Intel My Wifi features, for embedded devices.
