Intel to provide PCs to govt staff

BANGALORE: As part of its World Ahead program, Intel is introducing another program called Employee Purchase program focusing on the government employees with the objective of making the dream of universal PC ownership a reality.

Intel World Ahead program is an initiative that aims to make technology accessible for everyone, everywhere in the world through accessibility, connectivity and education.

Intel will provide affordable PC to each of the government employee, which can be used by their children as well, with financial support provided by banks. They are also tying up with telecom providers to provide broadband connection to these PCs.

Intel is also launching three pilot projects on one-to-one computing targeting government and aided schools in Delhi, one covering a large chain of government schools and two large chains of Private schools, with the aim of providing continuous access to technical tools, skills and education content.

Since the inception of the World Ahead program, Intel has undertaken many projects all around the world. Focusing its reach in India, Joydeep Bose, director, Emerging Market Platform Group, Intel India, said, ?Intel is trying to integrate available technology in the market and collaborating with several communities to implement the technology for the social and economic advancement.?

Talking about the initiatives by Intel, Bose said, Intel provides classmate PC for the students from fifth to tenth standards. It also provides Intel powered 'community PC' platform, which is equipped to operate in a community setting while accommodating the varying environmental conditions prevalent in the country. Third, Intel in collaboration with Government of India is rolling out one lakh ?kiosk? in the next 18 months in rural India.

Further collaborating with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Programme, Intel has undertaken the project to provide low cost PCs to school laboratories in four states in India.

Besides education and community, Intel is looking at rural healthcare as its next major area to be included in World Ahead program.
