MUMBAI: Thirty-two Intel Premier Providers (IPPs) across 13 cities in the country have come together to launch a national PC brand. Called Premier PC, it is slated for commercial availability in next two weeks. The Premier range of PCs will feature Prescott processors and will come at price points starting from Rs 29,000.

Talking about this initiative, Xpress Computers MD Chetan Shah said, "Since, we IPPs already possess the skills to build a reliable and quality product, it made sense to create a national brand for the same." While he admitted that it would be too ambitious to give a sales projection at the moment, he exuded confidence that the initiative would find reasonable success.

The Premier PCs are expected to be launched in three models: Premier 1000, 2000 and 3000. The IPPs are largely engaging with Intel and Samsung as component suppliers. "Since it is a joint effort, we would also be in a position to get better pricing from our OEM vendors, in turn offering our customers a good price-performance," added Shah. The PCs would carry one-year warranty, which could be extended for three years at additional cost.

"We are not trying to pitch Premier against MNC, national or assembled PCs. Instead what we are trying to show here is that with the technical expertise that we possess, we also could offer a national brand that meets the highest quality norms," remarked Ockam Infotech Director, Kamlesh Patil.

Shah also added that depending on the response to Premier PCs, the IPPs might consider launching servers and notebooks by next year.
