Intel CEO signs MoU with Indian govt.

NEW DELHI: Intel signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Information Technology Ministry of Communications, designed to create solutions to help make technology more accessible to educators throughout India, especially in rural areas. The agreement will expand and increase technology expertise among state governments and educators.






According to the MOU Intel will also work closely with companies who support the growth of PC penetration in India including OEMs, content creation companies and the channel to help make PCs more affordable for Indians.



While in New Delhi today, Intel CEO Craig Barrett announced memoranda of understanding with state governments of Uttaranchal, Kerala and Karnataka. These MOUs focus on extending technology

to rural areas, improving education and helping bridge the digital divide. "Technology is already transforming lives in India, improving education and fueling economic growth. We want to support the continuation of these trends," said Intel CEO Craig Barrett.



"India has shown the world its technology capabilities and best-quality, technology-literate workforce," said Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology. "We will continue to bring IT benefits to the masses enabling citizen empowerment in rural areas."






Barrett also announced the launch of the Intel Learn Program in India, a project-based technology curriculum taught to young people in an informal community setting rather than a traditional classroom.




The program reaches young people ages 8 through 16 in communities with limited access to computers, and provides them with curriculum designed to improve technology literacy, critical thinking,

problem solving, collaboration and teamwork.


The Intel Learn Program in India will be first implemented in Kerala.
