Instagram adds 'Recommended for You' feature on your timeline

Instagram is quietly rolling out a new feature 'Recommended for You' that will recommend posts for the users based on the accounts he/she follows. The new feature will contain three to five suggested posts and will be displayed while you browse your Instagram feed.

Previously, recommended posts and videos were displayed on the Explore tab, but now will be featured more prominently. According to Instagram's help section, the posts are suggested according to content liked by the accounts you follow. If you see something you don't like, you can temporarily hide "Recommended for You" posts by tapping the camera icon above the post and selecting "Hide." The new feature resembles a bit like Facebook's News Feed.

Instagram told TechCrunch that the "Recommended for You" section won't replace or get in the way of the accounts you explicitly follow, and will instead appear after you've seen all posts in your feed. Also the 'Recommended for You' feature can be temporarily disabled by clicking three dots on top-right of the post.

Earlier this month, Instagram introduced the feature to follow hashtags. As per the feature, users could click on the hashtag and see related posts.

Recommended for You is still rolling out to all users on iOS and Android devices and may not yet be available for everyone.
