Infy disaster recovery center in Mauritius

BANGALORE: Infosys Technologies Limited will set up its first disaster recovery center in the island of Mauritius. This was informed by the visiting IT and Telecommunication Minister from the island of Mauritius, Deelchand Jeeha.



"Our government is closely working with Infosys officials to ensure a smooth process in setting up of the center. I welcome all Indian IT companies to set up their center in the island of Mauritius to help in our mission in setting up the first Cyber Island in the world," said Jeeha.



The proposed Infosys center, complete with infrastructure, network connections, telecommunication facilities as well as back-up client data, will be on stand to take over client projects from across the globe, in case of any emergency. Serving as an alternate location in case of a disaster in other Infosys development centres, the disaster recovery centre will have a capacity to accommodate 1,500 people.



The disaster recovery center centre will become operational from January 2003 on a rented site. In about three years, Infosys plans to shift the centre to its own premises, with an investment of $25 million.



Announcing the company’s plans, Mr S Gopalakrishnan, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Director, Infosys Technologies said, "Business continuity planning is an integral part of the project management processes at Infosys. The proposed disaster recovery centre at Mauritius will further our efforts in this direction and ensure that the work our clients entrust us with, does not suffer under any circumstance."



Meanwhile, the company has also informed the BSE that it has allotted 8,897 equity shares of par value of Rs 5 to Bankers Trust Company, New York. The depository to the company`s ADS issue as underlying shares in respect of 17,794 ADSs would be issued and allocated to the purchasers, pursuant to the exercise of 17,794 options granted to employees under the company`s 1998 Option Plan.
