HYDERABAD, INDIA: In order to sensitize the young and working citizens on their right to vote, Infotech Enterprises today along with ‘Let's Vote' launched the first ever ‘Mobile Voter e-Registration Van' at their Manikonda campus.
The mobile voter registration facility has been designed and is being implemented by the Chief Electoral Officer at Andhra Pradesh. This will be the first time in India when electronic voter registrations will be conducted through mobile vans. The concept, which is being piloted at Hyderabad, intends to cover the entire country before the 2014 General Elections.
The event was targeted at the IT workforce and engineering students from colleges like IIIT-H.
Encouraging their own employees to get their voter e-registrations done at the mobile van, B Ashok Reddy, chairman CII-AP and president, Global HR and Corporate Affairs, Infotech Enterprises, said: "It is the responsibility of the institutions of the country to instill in their human capital the passion and enthusiasm to become a participant and contributor in the democratic processes and movements. I applaud ‘Let's Vote' and Chief Electoral Office, AP, for this revolutionary step towards educating and enabling people to exercise their voting rights."
Voting provides an opportunity to people to choose who should govern the affairs not only at the country level but at the state and municipal level. To bring about a change in this trend, Infotech Enterprises has partnered with this initiative in order to create awareness on the importance of casting votes amongst its employees and IT fraternity in general.
BVR Mohan Reddy, chairman and MD, Infotech Enterprises said: "At Infotech, we have always believed in supporting causes for the betterment of society and voter awareness is one such initiative. For better governance, it is critical for the educated and informed section of the society to exercise their voting rights. Through this campaign, we hope to bring about awareness and increase the level of participation. I urge all Infotech employees, IT fraternity and other citizens to come forward and register for Voter ID's and actively vote."
Commenting on the occasion, JA Chowdary, founder, Let's Vote said: "The elections in the past have reflected that the participation of the educated class in voting is significantly lesser than the rural class. With assembly elections due in about two months and general elections in 9-10 months, we have a task in hand to reach out to the youth and empower them with Voter IDs."
"There is an extremely small percentage of the young voters that have valid Voter ID cards which makes them eligible to participate in the voting process. The ‘Mobile Voter Registration Van'campaign aims to increase this figure and push the first time voters to register themselves. We are delighted to run the experiment of this first of its kind initiative in Hyderabad and want to replicate the success in many more regions across the country," said BhanwarLal, chief electoral officer, AP in his address.
