BANGALORE: The Infosys Science Foundation, set up by Infosys Technologies Ltd, announced on Wednesday the details of the five juries of eminent international academicians who would judge nominations and select the winners of the Infosys Prize under the categories of social sciences, physical sciences, engineering and computer science, mathematical sciences and life sciences for 2009.
The Infosys Science Foundation with an annual Infosys Prize amount of Rs. 2.5 crore (Rs. 50 lakh in each category), has been created to recognize accomplishments in pure and applied sciences research in India, said a press release.
While, Nobel laureate and Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University Professor Amartya Sen would head the jury for the Social Sciences category, the five-member juries for other categories will be headed by Professor Shrinivas Kulkarni (Physical Sciences), Professor Subra Suresh (Engineering and Computer Sciences), Professor Srinivasa Varadhan (Mathematical Sciences) and Professor Inder Verma (Life Sciences).
The Infosys Science Foundation was set up in February 2009, with a corpus amount of Rs. 21.5 crore contributed by Infosys executive board members and an annual grant by Infosys Technologies, to honor outstanding contributions and achievements by Indians in various streams of scientific research, the release added.
The jury chair will hold the position for three years.
