BANGALORE: Infosys Technologies Limited will establish its
first European Proximity Development Center (PDC) in the UK. The company said
that the decision has been triggered by a five-year contract that it has won
with Sainsbury’s Supermarkets, Ltd., one of the UK’s largest supermarket
chains. The contract is valued at 28 million pounds sterling. Throughout the
term of the contract, Infosys will provide development and maintenance support
to Sainsbury’s for its finance, human resources, and some marketing and
warehousing applications.
"We are pleased to be joining forces with Infosys,"
stated Bob Hammersley, Senior Manager of IT Services for Sainsbury’s.
"Being a CMM level 5 company, one of very few in the world, confirms our
own experience of the quality of service we have received from Infosys. We look
forward to an enduring partnership," he observed. The contract enables
current Sainsbury specialists to be deployed on strategic Information Technology
projects.
"Infosys is excited about this opportunity to work
closely with a large and visible company like Sainsbury’s," stated
Srinjay Sengupta, Head of European Business Development for Infosys.
Establishing the first European Proximity Development Center is also an
important step for Infosys. "Our PDC in the UK enables us to be physically
near our customers and work in the same time zone - as well as working closely
with staff in India to reduce time to market," observed Sengupta.
"This PDC will also provide an anchor for Infosys with other UK business
relationships," concluded A S Krishnamoorthy, Business Manager, Europe.
