BANGALORE: A group of six engineering students from Ropar in Punjab are conducting the first ever-online beauty contest in India.

Called “India’s hottest college chick contest”, the contest is open for all female college students in India in the age group of 16-24 years.

Worried parents and wannabe contestants can rest easy since there is no swimsuit round. Besides, to protect the identity and privacy of the girls, no personal details would be revealed on the site.

The competition would be entirely online and would test contestants at various levels. “There are various stages to this contest such as games, debates, group discussions, quizzes and chats, and netizens can vote in or vote out their favorite contestants online and also through SMS,” said Harpreet Singh, one of the contest’s co-ordinators. He likens the contest to an online reality show. All the action is set to happen on the website called www.bunkd.com.

He adds that netizens would be able to view multimedia audio-visual chips, podcasts, and chat with contestants and air their comments on forums. The organisers have received over 150 registrations already and 20 short-listed names would be announced in February. The competition would be held over the course of the month and the “lucky chick” would be revealed on March 1st.

Elaborating on the idea behind the contest, Singh reckons that the contest is a great way of creating market buzz before unveiling his youth portal bunkd.com to the world. “We are planning to launch a youth driven portal which is based on web 2.0 model with a lot of masala and spice,” said Singh.

The winner will walk away with D’damas jewelry. There are prizes at every level for both voters and participants, assures Singh.
