Indian telecom veteran passes away

NEW DELHI: Indian telecom industry veteran, Vijay Gupta breathed his last on 28 November Friday,



while being rushed to a hospital in Bangkok, after he suffered a heart attack while on board a flight, which was just about to take off.



Gupta was appointed as the President and CEO of Lucent Technologies in the summer of 2000 and carried with him almost two and half decade of industry experience. Prior to joining them, he was the president and member of the Board of Reliance Telecom.



He was serving Lucent in India even before joining them recently, through its joint ventures with Tata Industries. He was president and managing director of Tata Lucent Technologies and managing director of Tata Telecom.



He holds a B.Tech (Hons) degree in Electronics and Communications together with a Diploma in Marketing Management. He was an avid collector of masks.
